What is CBD?

CBD is a type of cannabinoid, a chemical that occurs naturally in cannabis and hemp plants. They are a group of compounds that act on cannabinoid receptors in the human body.  The body creates its own called endocannabinoids and the hemp plant produces phytocannabinoids.  There are 133 different cannabinoids isolated from the plant, each with different effects on the mind and body.

Medical research is currently being done to study the effectiveness of CBD for a variety of conditions.  Additionally, there is no apparent drug-drug interactions, tolerance-building effects or overdose potential.  CBD is not a psychoactive chemical as it is derived from hemp and not marijuana.  Unlike THC, CBD will NOT change a person's mental state or produce a “high”.

What is CBD

Archaeological discoveries have revealed that people have been using the plant more medical purposes since at least 500 BC and even Thomas Jefferson and George Washington grew hemp on the their plantations.  By the mid-1800s various medicinal preparations were appearing in pharmacies as remedies for nausea and vomiting.

Until recently, federal law prohibited the growth of the hemp plant so there has been limited research as to its use.  Now that more research is being done, it is suggested that CBD may have positive effects on one’s health.  The latest research suggests CBD may be helpful for anxiety, inflammation, seizures, pain and neurological/autoimmune symptoms.  It may also work as an antioxidant.  People are using CBD for the following:

  • Pain Relief
  • Better Sleep
  • Reduce Anxiety and Depression
  • Headaches & Migraines
  • Reduce Seizures
  • Reduce Pain From Arthritis
  • Joint Pain
  • Anti-inflammatory Effects
  • Could Benefit Heart Health
  • Alleviate Cancer-Related Symptoms
  • Neurological & Autoimmune Disease
